Capturing Gavi’s Commitment to Global Health – LIFE.14 Photography Report

From 20 to 22 August 2025, the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) took place in Yokohama, bringing together global leaders and international organizations to discuss Africa’s health equity and universal health coverage (UHC). At the Opening Session, Japan’s Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba announced a pledge of up to US$550 million to Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, over the next five years—underscoring Japan’s strong commitment to advancing vaccine supply and health equity in Africa.

As part of this historic event, LIFE.14 was entrusted with documenting Gavi’s official sessions. We have had the honor of working with Gavi across multiple years, and once again we captured the passion, determination, and collaborative spirit that define these gatherings. At high-level international conferences such as this, not only do schedules and proceedings often change at the last minute, but there are also a number of unique challenges: strict security measures for high-profile guests, the need to be mindful in multilingual and multicultural settings, the pressure of capturing key moments within very limited timeframes, and the technical constraints of inconsistent venue lighting or stage effects.
