Event Report: Shooting ACCJ’s “A Night of Stars and Stripes”

As a proud member of the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan (ACCJ), we were honored to support this year’s A Night of Stars and Stripes event as the official photography and videography team. Held on July 4 at the Tokyo American Club, the celebration brought together approximately 500 attendees to honor the enduring U.S.-Japan partnership and enjoy a vibrant evening of networking.

U.S. Ambassador George Glass delivered the official Independence Day address, followed by a toast from Ambassador William Grayson, Commissioner General of the USA Pavilion at Expo 2025, Osaka. Senior officials from both the U.S. and Japanese governments were in attendance. The atmosphere remained relaxed and engaging throughout the night, enhanced by live music, food, and conversation.

As with past ACCJ events, the Tokyo American Club presented familiar challenges—specifically, warm-toned, low-level lighting, which can be difficult for both still and motion capture. This year, the presence of Fender as a sponsor and a live performance by singer-songwriter Rei added another layer of complexity: accurately capturing the energy of the performance while maintaining visual clarity.

To address this, we used a lightweight, stabilized handheld camera system that allowed for smooth movement and flexibility across the venue. Our coverage included keynote speeches, guest interactions, sponsor booths, and performance scenes. We paid close attention to detail, such as natural facial expressions and Rei’s intricate fingerwork, to ensure the final content reflected the atmosphere and rhythm of the evening.

This assignment required a balance of efficiency, adaptability, and visual storytelling across a broad range of scenes—from formal addresses to spontaneous guest moments. In a fast-paced environment with limited light control, we focused on delivering consistent, high-quality results tailored to the event’s tone. We look forward to supporting similar events in the future with the same level of precision and flexibility.
