On October 9, 2025, the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan (ACCJ) Tourism and Hospitality Committee held a special event, “Gateway to Japan: Welcoming a New Era of Omotenashi,” at the JW Marriott Hotel Tokyo, located within JR East’s new Takanawa Gateway development.
The event served as a key platform bringing together leaders across tourism, rail, and hospitality to explore new perspectives on reimagining Japan’s inbound tourism.
The program opened with a keynote address by Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike, who shared how Tokyo continues to evolve as a world-leading travel destination under the Tokyo 2050 Strategy. This was followed by a thought-provoking panel discussion featuring Dr. Tadayuki (Tad) Hara of the University of Central Florida, Yoshiya Amanai from JR East’s Shinagawa Community Development Division, and Christopher Clark, General Manager of JW Marriott Tokyo.
Their discussion covered forward-looking themes such as integrating traditional omotenashi with data-driven urban strategies, fostering cross-sector collaboration among hospitality, rail, and city planning, and promoting regional destinations beyond Japan’s “Golden Route.”
