Witnessing a Milestone in Life — Capturing the Graduation Ceremony at The British School in Tokyo

On May 19, surrounded by the warm light of early summer in Tokyo, The British School in Tokyo celebrated its high school graduation ceremony. Once again, we at LIFE.14 had the opportunity to document this important day through photography and video.
Before the ceremony began, graduates quietly stood beside their families, sharing soft smiles in front of the camera.
Parents grew emotional during heartfelt speeches by the headteacher and student representatives.
The hall filled with music from the student band, followed by cheers and applause as each student stepped forward to receive their diploma.
We aimed to capture every moment—each expression and shift in emotion—just as it unfolded.
From family portraits and speeches to live performances, the diploma presentation, and the grand group photo, we were there for it all. Our goal throughout was to preserve not just the events, but the atmosphere and emotion of the day—something that would still speak to people years from now.
Being part of such a defining moment in someone’s life is always meaningful.
We hope these photos and videos help the graduates and their families relive the joy and pride of that day for many years to come.
